EMBARKING ON A NEW MISSION
Community Memorial Health System has created a new vision, one that can only be accomplished as a collaborative effort with the great help of the community.
Following extensive study and research with physicians, staff, professional advisors, and community leaders, the Board of Trustees and Administration of Community Memorial Health System are undertaking two important projects that will expand and enhance healthcare services at both the Ventura and Ojai campuses. These projects are needed to meet a state seismic mandate, but more importantly, they are needed to update outdated facilities so that our healthcare professionals are able to practice modern medicine in modern facilities that will benefit the residents of the communities we serve.
MEETING CURRENT AND FUTURE NEEDS
A new hospital is planned for Ventura that will meet the existing and emerging needs of patients and their families with both the present and the future in mind. This new hospital will be a six-story, 325,000-square feet structure on the current campus at the corner of Brent Street and Cabrillo Street. As part of their planning process, the hospital’s design team hosted a week long charrette to engage the community in the design of the hospital building, the project site and ways the new hospital may be integrated within the Midtown Community.
The new Community Memorial Hospital will feature timeless, classic architecture that complements local landmarks. East and west wings will be connected by a picturesque central tower with views of the ocean and the surrounding foothills. A place of hope, healing and comfort, the hospital will also be in full compliance with current state structural and non-structural seismic codes enabling it to withstand a significant earthquake and remain operationally independent of the surrounding community infrastructure.
GREEN IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO
The project aspires to a number of environment friendly or “green” goals. Using the nationally recognized LEED for Healthcare Guidelines, we are adopting principles that integrate, both within our operational and building processes, practices and materials that benefit and protect the health of our local environment while caring for the health of our citizens.
A HEALING ENVIRONMENT
The healing atmosphere of the new hospital will integrate elements that focus on quality of life, as well as on the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The planning process for the new hospital centered on the guiding principle that the facility will be designed to respect and support patient dignity with comfortable space and accommodations for families. The healing environment of the Hospital will integrate elements that focus on quality of life, as well as on the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Inside, the new Community Memorial Hospital will be both beautiful and beautifully efficient with a more open, airy, lighted feel to public areas.
Another key component of the new CMH will be the grouping of common treatment areas and departments to maximize work flow between departments and treatment centers, physicians and staff, while similarly maximizing privacy.
